SHKODER - A police officer was killed on Tuesday evening in Shkodër, and the motive for the crime is still unknown. The 41-year-old Yll Mazreku, a police officer by profession and head of public order at the police station in Pukës, was shot dead after an ambush in the “Qafë-Hardhi” neighborhood of the city of Shkodër. The report, obtained from police sources in this northern city, states that Officer Yll Mazreku was found dead at around 8:30 in the morning. Initial investigations have shown that the slain officer was hit by three pistol bullets, two of them to the head and another to the arm. The lifeless body of the 41-year-old was found in a street in the “Qafë-Hardhi” neighborhood, near his former house. Police sources in Shkodër also reported that Officer Yll Mazreku had lived for some time in this neighborhood of Shkodër, but recently he had been transferred together with his family to the city of Pukë, where he had taken up the new post of head of public order. In 1992, Yll Mazreku had worked at the police station in Shkodër. According to preliminary police investigations in Shkodër, the 41-year-old was killed during the night and then his body was taken to the alley in the “Qafë-Hardhi” neighborhood, where it was found yesterday morning. Immediately after the incident, police investigative teams went to the scene and began their inquiries. By yesterday noon, the perpetrators of this killing had not been identified, while the motive remains a mystery. Police sources in Shkodër stated that they have very little information to shed light on this serious event, while the body of the slain officer was taken during the day by his relatives for burial. It is still not known whether the murdered officer had been in Shkodër on official duty or had come for family reasons. Nor is it yet known whether he was alone at the time of the killing.
